About Ready, Set, Go!

The Ready, Set, Go! (RSG) program is a national initiative managed by the International Association of Fire Chiefs (IAFC). It provides fire departments and community-serving groups across the country with a consistent framework to help residents prepare for wildfire. The program emphasizes three critical steps:

Ready: Prepare your home, family, and property long before a wildfire occurs by creating defensible space, hardening your home, and making a family evacuation plan.

Set: Stay alert by monitoring conditions, signing up for emergency alerts, and knowing when and how to act if fire threatens.

Go: Evacuate early, following your plan to keep yourself and your family safe.

Hawaiʻi’s version of RSG builds directly from this nationally recognized framework but is tailored to the unique wildfire risks, landscapes, and evacuation realities of our islands. Our handbook, webinars, and outreach materials adapt the IAFC standards to address local conditions—from non-native grasses that fuel fast-moving fires to the challenges of limited road access and island communities.
By grounding our work in the IAFC’s national program while localizing it for Hawaiʻi, we ensure that residents receive credible, evidence-based guidance that reflects both national best practices and our community’s needs.
